Survey on Developing an ECOWAS Regulation on Gender Assessment in Energy Infrastructure
The ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is seeking input from energy sector practitioners on gender impact assessment practices in energy infrastructure projects. An online survey has been put together to collect this input.
Research by the World Bank, USAID, ENERGIA and other gender and energy practitioners has shown that the impacts of energy infrastructure projects on the lives of the male and female population have been uneven. Despite the importance of incorporating gender considerations in energy infrastructure development, the practice is not wide-spread. To fill the gap, the ECOWAS Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) is developing a Regulation on Gender Assessment in Energy Infrastructure that will set the stage for member states to make Gender Impact Assessment a requirement for energy infrastructure projects.
In order to inform the development of the Regulation, ECREEE is seeking input from energy sector practioners through an online survey on current gender impact assessment practices in the energy infrastructure sector both in the ECOWAS region and internationally. The survey results will be included in a background study that will help shape the Regulation.
