14 June 2019
Delegates from the Government of Zambia travelled to Beijing (China) to present the Zambia SEforALL Investment Prospectus (IP) to a large audience of international development partners and investors at the United Nations conference on scaling-up energy access and finance in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), which took place 30th-31st May 2019.
During a session dedicated to discussing the role of national sustainable energy investment studies in accessing finance and accelerating energy transition in LDCs, Mr. Chipampa Chola – Energy Officer, Ministry of Energy – provided a synopsis of the country’s SEforALL Action Agenda and Investment Prospectus, including a presentation of key projects of Zambia’s IP pipeline. In his closing remarks, Mr. Chola underlined the need to mobilise financing to implement this pipeline: “The (Zambia’s) Investment Prospectus draws on various on-going initiatives in the energy sector, and successful implementation of the projects will require support from Cooperating Partners, as well as collaboration with the private sector both for financial and technical support”.
The Conference was jointly organised by the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) and the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO). It brought together 200 participants representing governments, United Nations agencies, international and regional organizations, civil society, private sector, business community and think-tanks.
